Overview
Cala Macarella is the quintessential postcard of Menorca, widely celebrated as one of the most spectacularly beautiful coves in the entire Balearic archipelago. A perfect semi-circular bay of fine, sugar-white sand is framed by sheer limestone cliffs that rise dramatically from the sea. Atop these cliffs, a dense forest of Mediterranean pines stretches to the very edge of the coast, casting a vibrant green backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the dazzling turquoise hues of the water.
The water here is incredibly calm and clear, making it feel like a massive natural swimming pool. On a sunny day, boats anchoring in the bay cast clear shadows on the sandy bottom, giving the illusion that they are floating in mid-air. It is an ideal spot for swimming, snorkeling along the rocky edges, or simply floating in the tranquil, warm Mediterranean sea.
As one of the island's most popular destinations, Cala Macarella features a small seaside restaurant (Chiringuito) nestled under the pine trees, offering refreshments and local dishes. To preserve its virgin state, vehicle access is restricted during the peak summer months, meaning visitors arrive via public bus or a scenic, shade-dappled walk along the historic Camí de Cavalls trail from nearby Cala Galdana or the parking area.
